By sharing lived experience, this powerful and honest introduction to SMART (Self Management and Recovery Training), explains how the SMART Recovery Programme for Family & Friends highlights the tools for people who want to support their loved one and begin their own recovery, when dealing with their loved one’s addiction. Participating in a supportive environment, with people sharing similar experiences, hopefully lessening feelings of isolation and instilling a sense of hope, and we learn from those who, with considerable courage, have taken steps to make positive changes in their lives.

This groundbreaking programme Highlights SMART Recovery UK’s support, for Family & Friends, affected by someone in active addiction or recovering from it. Past documentaries on addiction have touched upon its effects on loved ones, but none has focussed on making positive changes to their own behaviour around the person in recovery or still in active addiction. Family and Friends can recognise and meet their own need for self-care, and learn how they can both positively and negatively influence the recovery process.

We learn about using some of the key points of SMART Recovery adapted to suit the needs of family & friends. Inviting participants to spend time concentrating on themselves and their goals, an area they may have been neglecting, rather than always focusing on their loved one. We explore ways participants can look after themselves better; even in difficult and stressful circumstances, and how to establish healthier relationships.

The film is at the crossroads between a popular feature film and a poetic vision of nature, highlighting spectacular British natural sites. A great exploration for international spectators and a cross-generational documentary that can inspire all types and ages of audiences in all countries. Nature lovers, defenders of the environment, and also music lovers and lovers of literature, will engage with the themes evoked and the range of personalities present in the film: famous writers, much-loved BBC radio presenters, great conservationists, renowned illustrators and popular musicians and established folk stars performing in natural environments, this film provides a cinematic portrayal of nature and has wide appeal to audiences of all ages.

In late pre-production. Financially supported by the Normandy Region and Screen Scotland. After meeting their French producer Dorian Blanc and French director Hannah Papacek Harper at Sunny Side of the Doc in La Rochelle in 2022, Malcolm Moore was engaged as a development consultant and a potential coproducer to advise the French producer and director on acquiring the underlying rights, for the rights expectations of UK broadcasters (compared to French broadcasters), and the coproduction opportunities for Rétroviseur Productions, as well as engaging UK crew and clarifying standard UK broadcasters budget expectations.

Outspoken is an international broadcast documentary that highlights that rap can articulate identity and educate, it can sway opinion and rap can win and lose elections. While Rap can win freedoms, it can also lose lives.

In the wake of global instability and rapid change the voice of the rap artist echoes environmental catastrophe, social rupture and political brutality. Outspoken reveals that rap, the swirling global dialogue, that is the social commentary for our times, helps us to understand world events that engulf us all, and that rhyming is a living and transforming art form that originated with the griots, bards and storytellers of ancient times.

Darryl MacDaniels from seminal rap crew Run DMC, remembers being a teen when Caribbean sound systems appeared in the streets and parks of New York. Darryl describes how early 80's rap gave a voice to disenfranchised youth in an era of repressive government and urban decay.

Across the Pacific in New Zealand, 1980's videotape shows a young Maori artist flipping through import records in a record store. Te Kupu established one of New Zealand’s earliest rap groups. Rapping about growing up in a post-colonial nation, Te Kupu is propelled to the helm of a revival of Maori language and identity, connecting his rap activism to global indigenous movements and struggles.

In Myanmar Zeyar Thaw began rapping in Burmese about human rights and freedom of expression and founded Generation Wave, an activist group that protested military rule using rap and graffiti. In 2008, he was detained and sentenced to a term as a political prisoner. For almost 3-years, writing rap lyrics in betelnut on the walls of his cell. Then newly released from prison, swaps his emcee mic for politics and campaigns to become a member of Parliament. Then Feb 2021 signals the end of the military's flirtation with shared civilian rule, and clips from citizen journalists show Zayar Thaw returning to street protest and resistance. He is rearrested and imprisoned on trumped-up charges of terrorism, while the military regime holds a sham trial during which they deny Zayar Thaw legal representation. In July 2022, contravening all international human rights laws, the illegal junta carried out their brutal threat and Zayar Thaw was executed. His body has still not been released to his family.

Darryl interviews fellow rapper Emmanuel Jal on the radio in Juba, South Sudan. Jal was a child soldier during the war with Sudan before he fled to Kenya. Jal talks of stepping up to cypher circles in Kaukuma refugee camp, supported by his childhood experience of verbal duelling and storytelling in the Nuer tradition. In South Sudan today, young people hold Emmanuel Jal in high esteem as he proves that the microphone is a far more powerful weapon than the gun.

Senegalese rapper MC Xuman connects modern-day rap poetry to the griots of West Africa, "as the storytellers and news reporters". Across town, Sister Fa returns to West Africa uses rap and art to challenge the cultural tradition of female genital mutilation, battling to keep her music and activism alive and she speaks about the difficulties she faces working in a culture that does not perceive rap as the domain of women.

'Power As Pathology' tracks innovative collaborations to prepare tech transfer hubs, manufacturing sites and distribution networks to supply next-generation vaccines in Africa for Africa. We follow the African continent's growing momentum to establish equity in outbreak responses, despite continued exclusion from cutting-edge countermeasures in the face of increasing health security threats. Decades of Global North biomedical research in African nations left little benefit to the continent’s fragile public health systems. However, West Africa stitched a silver lining into their 2014 Ebola response by innovating outbreak responses and improving healthcare systems. Soon after, all 55 African nations formed a united health agency. Vaccine nationalism among wealthy nations prompts a united front among African scientists and leaders in decrying unjust global vaccine inequities and by taking action. An African billionaire steps up and negotiates the purchase of life-saving jabs, while South Africa deploys reverse engineering mRNA technology to begin vaccine production.

Enclosing open-air dumps and outlawing waste picking are key approaches to modernizing cities around the world. THE WASTE COMMONS explores the dramatic transformations involved in the impending upgrade of the city waste dump in Dakar, Senegal, and the lives that hang in the balance. It follows charismatic Zidane, trailblazing Adja, and their waste picker community, as they battle to defend their carefully crafted worlds and rights to waste: “We work in garbage but we are not garbage”

The filmmakers:
Sarita West, Director, Producer, Writer, Additional Editing: I am always excited by stories with social justice at the core. and I have always worked with local crew and encouraged participatory filmmaking with participants. I jumped at the chance to be a part of telling a documentary story that sits at the intersection of environmental justice and workers’ rights. I am also captivated by the more-than-human aspects of the setting of the Mbeubeuss dump. I believe documentaries are a powerful and authentic storytelling tool to keep us aware and engaged in our collective journey into a globally uncertain future.

Rosalind Fredericks Director/Producer/Writer: I have been researching and writing about waste labor and urban social justice in Dakar, Senegal for 20 years. This film is the product of my close collaboration with the Bokk Diom Association of Waste Pickers and WIEGO, an advocacy organization that defends informal workers. It aims to directly impact the fate of Dakar waste pickers and raise awareness about reclaiming for policy-makers, academic audiences, and the public.

Mamadou Dia Prodcuer. An award-winning Senegalese film director, screenwriter, and co-founder of the production company, Joyedidi. His short film, Samedi Cinema, opened at the Venice and Toronto International Film Festivals in 2016 and received numerous accolades. Baamum Nafi (Nafi’s Father), his first feature film, premiered in 2019, winning two Golden Leopards for “First Feature” and “Filmmakers of the Present” at the Locarno International Film Festival. It was selected for MOMA/Lincoln Center’s 2020 New Directors/New Films, the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival Talent Lab, and the 2018 Hubert Bals writing grant. Senegal chose Baamum Nafi as its Oscar entry for Best International Feature in 2021. Mamadou Dia received an MFA in Filmmaking from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2017 and is an Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Virginia. He was recently awarded a 2023 Guggenheim Fellowship in the Film- Video category.

Maba Ba Producer. Maba grew up in Senegal where very often he could be found telling and hearing stories around a couple of candles and entertaining his family members while waiting for the electricity to come back on. It was at that very young age that he started to appreciate the unlimited power of stories. After studying Computer Science at Old Dominion University, he moved to New York to continue his education in 3D animation and Acting. He then immersed himself in the Film, Tech, and 3D animation world. Maba is an actor, producer, and director with titles such as WarGames (MGM), Christmas Wedding Baby (Netflix), and award-winning shorts such as Samedi Cinema (TIFF, Venice), Men or Mice (Urbanworld) to name a few. He is a cofounder, with Mamadou Dia, of the JoyeDidi entertainment company.

Pierre LeCompte Cinematographer. A Senegalese cinematographer with over twenty-five years of experience in the film industry. He worked as a cameraman before becoming a cinematographer working on fiction, documentaries, docu-dramas, feature films, and commercials in several countries with directors of various nationalities. He is best known for the television series C’est la Vie (2019-2020), the films Mbarane (2004) and Ngoyaan, le chant de la séduction (2004) and for the documentaries: L’eau Source de Vie (2000), Quitter le Pouvoir (2014), Juifs Noir, Les Racines de l’Olivier (2015), Si Loin du Vietnam (2016), and 50 ans de la Banque (2023).

Cheikh Ahmed Tidiane Sy Cinematographer. A graduate of Cheikh Anta Diop University and the Media Center in Dakar, Cheikh is a Senegalese director, cinematographer, and independent video journalist who has fifteen years of experience. His first film was a short documentary titled Silence, On Arrive (2005) deals with the fate of Mauritanian refugees in the Senegal River valley. Released in 2008, the second is about the manatees of the Nawel backwater, in Matam. Subsequently, he directed Mbeubeuss, the Gold Rush in 2011 which looks at people who live off the waste economy at the Mbeubeuss landfill. In 2020, he made the feature documentary Les Murs Du Savoir shot over 4 years with four portraits of students from the Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar.

Evelyn Franks Editor An award-winning editor specializing in long and short form documentaries. She demonstrates sound editorial judgment and employs strong intuitive ability in structuring narrative, pace and tone. Leading-edge technical skills across all major editing software packages. With over 18 years’ of international experience, credits include BBC 4, BBC 3, BBC World Service, CNN, Al Jazeera English, VICE, HBO and theatrical release. Skilled in international channel launches. Her subject specialities focus on history, current affairs, arts, music and observational documentary. Awards include Peabody, Lovie, Webby, Frontline Club, Broadcast Digital and Eutelsat, a Grierson nomination in 2017 and several Promax awards and nominations. Previously an Associate Editor to renowned Editor Walter Murch on the feature length documentary “COUP 53,” which premiered at the 2019 Telluride Film Festival.

When awkward, lonely I.T. guy David Edison, falls in love with a cam girl, he inadvertently unleashes Asmodeus, the demon of lust, during an online ghost hunt, who then proceeds to wreak havoc on his life and the people around him. The story plays out entirely on the desktops of a team of online ghost hunters, who've decided to run a series of live paranormal experiences online that anyone can buy tickets to and join. But during one of these events, a demon is unleashed who wrecks havoc via the wi-fi network.

We can all learn new ways of being: A quirky and endearing investigation of the role of the father in the 2020s shot in Brent, one of the most diverse boroughs in London and one of the most economically deprived areas in the UK. Where fathers are often absent and real Dads are needed more than ever, the film explores how Barnardo’s gives these fathers a real voice. Against a background of gang culture and boy on boy knife crime, when male suicide is rising and danger lurks round every corner.

Malcolm took part in a Q&A after the cast and crew screening at BAFTA in early 2022.

The NHS Trust employs 5600 staff, providing care and treatment for more than 845,000 people with a turnover of over £450 million a year.

A journey of memory, the indifference of nature, and the transformative power of small occurrences, the film explores how one derives meaning from nature and the forces that act within it. Using archive footage the film explore the memories of esteemed members of the original cast 'Oh, What a Lovely War!' 1963 including interviews with Barbara Windsor, Murray Melvin, Judy Cornwell, Nadine Holdsworth. In 1960s England, Joan Littlewood, one of the first female directors in British theatre - a force to be reckoned with - developed a revolutionary approach to theatre, creating the famous anti- war musical.

Nevertheless, sparks fly. 5 years later, they have broken up and Eloise is going back to France. Tom has 45 minutes to win her back. Forced to leave their Caribbean paradise where they live in spiritual retreat, they evacuate to London which they see as an oppressive concrete jungle and the heart of ‘Babylon’. Opportunities in music, employment and personal lives present themselves, yet success and self-realisation seem to be just beyond their grasp, as they pitch between enjoying the thrills of the city and committing to the temperance that Rastafari extols.

The city’s currents begin to sweep them further and further from their core values and collective identity, and they drift deeperinto troubled lives. They reinvent themselves as 'rude-boy' rappers and smalltime hustlers on the nightclub circuit. Will their dreams of celebrity be realised before the law catches up with them? This is what it is reflects on love from the male side of the fence. Cass a self-confessed nostalgia junkie tries to come to terms with losing the great love of his life Kelly. Set over eighteen months we follow Cass as he at first struggles with the separation and the constant reminders of Kelly. His friends on the other hand do what friends do...drag him back out on the town. Six months later and Cass is bitter and out of control as he pursues every girl he comes into contact with. His memories of Kelly are fading fast. Finally 18 months have passed and Cass has a new lease of life and a new girlfriend and all is going well until he bumps into Kelly and is forced to realise that he is living a lie.

The film involves in-depth interviews including Richie Havers - the opening act at Woodstock in '69, Gloria Streinem, Mike Leigh, Eddie Izzard, Paul Krassner, Helen Caldicott and many others. With the support of pioneering avant-garde filmmaker, film critic and poet the late Jonas Mekas who died in 2019.

Presented through an Alice in Wonderland-like lens, the film spins out from the personal story and becomes a patchwork of different voices and perspectives on the state of our species. It's a search to find what ever fragments of the dream of peace and harmony still exist. Experiencing a sense of nostalgia for the orginal Woodstock festival Nancy asks if the purity and innocence of those heady days can ever come again.“Deep in the Deal” is one woman's quest to rediscover the spiritual idealism of the sixties and make sense of her dream of peace.

Nancy Cohen is a writer, director and producer whose first film was the award-winning documentary "My Dinner with Abbie", which premiered at the International Documentary Festival Amsterdam, the JungForum in Berlin and the AFI in Los Angeles. The film went on to win best in the catergory "Struggle for Human Rights and Justice" at Vermont Earthpeace Documentary Festival. Invited to attend Berlinale, the first Annual Berlin Talent Campus, Nancy's work has been featured at international film festivals around the world and broadcast on both side of the Altantic by Channel 4 and PBS. Finalist for the 2006 Tribecca Film Festival, winner of the New York Public Library, Martin Luther King "I have a Dream" essay competition, and finalist for the Roy Dean New Zealand Writing Grant. Nancy is a poet and artist with her work appearing in galleries in London and New York.
